Windows Sysinternal team from Microsoft released desktops v1.0 for multitasking. Desktops allow us to organize applications up to four virtual desktops. So you can organize your applications on these four desktops, like we can use one desktop for browsing, second one for accessing stuff from my computer, third one for installing softwares and fourth one for music and videos, without clutter of windows.

Switching to these virtual desktops is easy by configuring four hotkeys (F1, F2, F3, F4 or 1, 2, 3, 4) with shortcut keys like Alt, Control, Shift , Windows. Also you can switch between the virtual desktop by using desktops icon from system tray.

Application windows are bound to a desktop object when they are created to maintain the connection between application and desktops. So it is not possible to move application from one desktop to another desktop. Desktops is not compatible with some application that doesn’t like multiple instances like Snagit, firefox. So we are not able to use such applications in all four desktops.

Desktops v1.0 is free and compatible with Windows XP and Vista.

I am using desktops to organize my all applications in four virtual desktops. It might be useful for you to organize your applications ?
